Lies and assumptions
I read somewhere that the reason people lie is... "To look
good. We choose to present an image of ourselves as attractive and
desirable. We are afraid to share information that may make us look bad.".
But when you know the person is lying it just makes them look bad anyway, so what does it really achieve?
What is there to hide? Why is there a need to lie?
It's just as bad as assuming. The age old saying that to assume just makes an ass out of u and me ...so true.

Song of the Day: White Lies - Death
Came on the 'Pod during a shuffle earlier. Had a little sing along.
The best argument for my chocolate addiction
Anybody else have the urge to take Gillian McKeith to a Krispy Kreme?
Healthy eating is definitely something I advocate, but this picture keeps popping up in various places around t'internet showing exactly why I would never give up my chocolate or cupcakes ...or Baileys for that matter!
The point the picture really raises though, is that nothing in any kind of extreme is good for you! (Anyone who disagrees with this I shall introduce you to my sister!) If Nigella ate meat, butter and desserts in extreme it would be a very different picture too. Moderation is very clearly the key!
Now where did I put that chocolate...

Simple things
Life has a funny way of helping you out sang Alanis, and I have often wondered... really? Does it? Well apparently yes it does, not in your lottery win or sudden inheritances of a mansion from a long lost relative kind of way but in a hey this will make you smile kind of way...
So you know that moment we all fear when the vending machine has taken your money and the chocolate bar gets stuck. It's out of it's loop, it's nearly there but just as you think it's about to fall, it stops. It stares at you as it teeters on the edge of it's row, pretty much laughing at you as it goes nowhere. You knock the machine a little, desperate to nudge it that last bit to the drop down. The not so gentle knocking becomes full on barging, which when failed leads to vigorous and almost vandal like attempts to rock the machine. But the stubborn little chocolate bar just won't budge.
You've probably guessed already, but this is exactly what happened to me this evening. I don't give up very easily though and not much stands between me and my chocolate! So I get my money back and try again. This time however the machine won't even let me select the same item, it knows that the chocolate bar I really want is sat there teasing me on the edge and it's fancy modern computerised screen tells me that row is now "out of order".
Disappointment sets in as I scan the rows for a replacement to my much awaited first choice chocolate bar. Eventually (as the queue of fellow chocolate wanting people continues to build up behind me and the original crowd begin to get impatient) I select a 'second choice' chocolate bar. The loops of it's row begin to move, the bar shuffles forward ...and it slowly but surely tips over the edge. Yay! Second time lucky, I'm going to get my chocolate fix.
But wait...
...as my second choice bar begins to tumble to the bottom of the machine it heads directly in line with the first. The first is still perched... free from it's loops but entrapped by the glass, and as the second choice bar brushes past it, the first choice bar begins to wobble. There's a tense moment of hope. But nothing happens. So I return my focus to the second choice bar and hear the satisfying thud that means it has landed in the drawer. I bend down to retrieve my prize ...and out of the corner of my eye I see movement! It's moving! The first choice chocolate bar is somersaulting it's way down the vending machine and as I hear a second thud in the drawer I suddenly realise... I'VE WON!!
That's right...Vending machine 0, Sarah 2!
Yes TWO. Two chocolate bars for the price of one. Say what you like about "simple things" but a smile beamed across my face like a £50 note had landed in that drawer.
I didn't even share my wealth. It was mean of me, but I'm always sharing. This win was for me. And being ribbed nearly ALL evening for keeping both chocolate bars and scoffing them all by myself ...was so worth it!

Tell me something
I am lying in bed listening to an album from 2003 ...that I have only just been introduced too. I'm not sure how I missed it though. The band are right up my street! Imagine No Doubt crossed with Nirvana almost ...so if they were heavier, darker and had never heard of ska ...and then scrap that because I hate comparing bands to other bands! My not-so-new discovery is The Distillers (who's name I had heard of before but somehow not any of their songs). The particular album I have fallen in love with is Coral Fang, which I am half way through my third listen of in it's entirety this evening ...and I'm not going to lie I am pretty much writing this blog post just to keep me from falling asleep before the end. Oh yes, I am quite capable of falling asleep to the soothing sound of roaring electric guitars and feedback.
I love discovering good new music to add to my collection, be it 'new' new music or old music that's just new to me. And my friends are so good. Not judging the gaping holes in my music knowledge but instead leading me to the music that should have been on my iPod since the beginning!

Song of the Day: Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
Live from back in the day ...amazing. Such a classic.

Do you have a parrot?
"If you have a parrot and you don't teach it to say, "Help, they've turned me into a parrot", you are wasting everybody's time."
(This actually made me laugh out loud ...and if it made you smile too, my work here is done).
Wide awake
I'm struggling to get to sleep tonight. Possible due to the excessive amount of home made mochas I have drunk, the excessive amount of time I've spent staring at a computer screen studying today (and blogging and social networking and the rest of course!) and possibly due to the excessively loud volume of my iPod when I first came to bed, which has now left my ears ringing (when will I learn!). Obviously the situation is not being helped now by my iPhone being in my hands and me tapping away at another blog post! But it's something to do.
A temporary case of insomnia such as this, makes me think back to when I was little and I couldn't sleep. I would often wonder into the kitchen to find my nan sat with some warm milk suffering the same issue. She would show me little word games to play and we'd sit and try to out wit each other until our eyelids finally weighed more than our bodies were willing to deal with, and we could finally slope off to bed and enter our dream worlds. Unfortunately as a chronic nightmare sufferer my dream world wasn't always the best place for me but something about these little midnight meetings and word games would nearly always secure a pleasant nights sleep. And so it's a memory I often look back on when my bodies fighting against the need to rest.
Many a time since I've found replaying that memory in my mind is enough to finally help me slip into sleepiness ...and in saying that, I think it may just have done the trick again.

Song of the day: No Doubt - Just a Girl
The anthem of my teenage years!
So I also like to bake
Cakes and cupcakes kind of contradict my current studies (nutrition therapy etc.) and my general healthy way of being (which admittedly has been on hold a little recently) ...but so does my chocolate addiction and life would be very boring if there were no treats!

Friends
...are for spending nearly five whole hours just talking and talking and talking. You know those times when you say "ooh we should make a move", coats go on, handbags are picked up, car keys are in hand and half an hour later you're still stood talking and still have so much to say. Or those times when you meet for coffee at 10am and are still sat gassing away in the coffee shop, holding the same cups, four hours later. Or even those nights when the wine (or in my case spicey rum!) has been flowing, midnight strikes and everyone agrees it's time to head to bed but as the sun begins to rise the next morning, you're still chattering away.
We all know friends actually do a lot more than just talking and talking and talking ....but sometimes they do a lot more than just talking and talking and talking, by just talking.
In the case of this evening it was my friend who needed the support. Being able to help her through things and know that she's feeling better simply because a few of us spent all night nattering away, makes me smile. It was such a brilliant evening too ...definitely a win/win situation.

Happy happy, joy joy
(Anyone else remember Ren and Stimpy?)
So despite the hell I've been through recently, and despite the fact that technically my life is a little erm... well, shall we say "untidy" at the moment, I am feeling really happy this evening!
Work is going amazingly at the moment. My freelance business is really getting going now. I'm thriving at college. I have literally THE most amazing friends that a girl could wish for (and I know the rule with friends is quality over quantity but I am lucky enough to have lots of amazing friends!). I'm getting more attention from men then is wanted but with that the reassurance that I've still got it. And I have two gorgeous little boys who make me so so proud of them everyday.
All I need to do is find the right house and ...well like I said in my first post, they'll be no stopping me!

Victory Rolls
An almost obsessive fascination with the 20th century inspires me to no end, and one thing I have always wanted to do is wear my hair in victory rolls. This is coupled with the fact that one of my biggest idols is the gorgeous Gwen Stefani, who's platinum blonde locks are often styled in to the most gorgeous and sleek 1940's-esque rolls.
Unfortunately I am currently sporting a rather stylish, sleek, inverted bob, which it turns out... not the best cut to wrestle into one of the most glamorous and iconic hair styles of the mid 20th century. However I have found a brilliant little tutorial Victory Rolls In a Jiffy from a treasure trove of a blog titled Diary of a Vintage Girl, that I am going to save for when my hair is a little longer.
